Product Description

Very collectible Originals by Irmi toy soldier switchplate will stand guard over sleeping children  after the lights go out, just as he did decades ago.  Bright & cheerful in classic nursery colors, the plate features a hand-painted soldier whose head is designed  to tilt side to side just a bit (still functional).  Most items in the line have a surprise "extra" feature" like this.

Despite  "Nursery Plastics" in the manufacturer's name, this item is wooden, and as far as we can tell, everything else they made was, too.  The line was manufactured from the 1950's until 1971 and included everything needed to furnish a nursery. As well as switchplates, they made mobiles, lamps & wall hangings.  Characters are taken straight from nursery rhymes & fairy tales. The company was owned by Irmi & Fred Bering, a Jewish couple who fled Hitler's Germany, met & married in the U.S., & became known for their philanthropy.

Measures 6" high at tallest point, 4" wide, and 1/2 inch deep.

Details & Condition:  True vintage.  Painted & lacquered wood, front & back, in good overall condition with minor scars & wear to the back as well as paint loss to the figure's front consistent with age & use (probably as a result of switching the light on & off).  Small red paint blotch to the figure's small hand appears to be original; minor dark scuff to side of face, 3 small yellow dots on backside may be paint.   Gold foil sticker on back states "Originals by Irmi, and " "Nursery Plastics, Inc.  Paint loss around screw & switchplate cutout.  Takes 2 small screws to install, not included.

Ships in USPS small flat rate box
